Biography
Bogdan Konopka was born in 1953 in Dynów. He is one of the main creators of the trend of so-called elementary photography, whose program he developed in 1982-85 at the Foto-Medium-Art gallery in Wroclaw. Photographer and critic associated since 1994 with the art magazine "Format" and the quarterly "Fotografia" (2000-12).
He ran authorial photography studios at the National Higher School of Photography in Arles, France (1994-97), the Warsaw School of Photography (2009-11) and the Ecole de la Photographie de Vevey in Switzerland (2006-16). Winner of the Grand Prix de la Ville de Vevey in the European Photography Competition in 1998. In his work he prefers silver photography, most preferably large-format. Above all, he is interested in the possibilities of recording individual aspects of spiritual experiences, laboriously called inner landscape. He is currently working on a book about Poland (1978-2018) for the Delpire publishing house in Paris and on a biographical publication for the słowo/obraz terytoria publishing house.
The artist's works have been exhibited in many countries around the world, and are in the collections of well-known museums, including: Center Pompidou in Paris, Center for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, Collections du Ministre de la Communaute Francaise de Belgique in Brussels, House of Photography in Moscow.
