One aspect of the series "Inciting Force" shows the cultural symptoms of our society. It is an attempt to show the artist's view of being a woman, of femininity, of the role of women, as well as an analysis of the related stereotypes and their representation in the media, in visual and textual art, etc. "Zhanna Gladko began this series in 2011. The exercise in decoding and transcoding famous cultural works suggests portraits rather than self-portraits. Created at different times, in different contexts, the images play with the ambiguity of different cultural works. Through decoding and transcoding, the artist makes them into uncanny simulacra. The artist prints the images on metal plates. Thanks to their mirrored surface, the plates reflect the face of the attentive viewer, who can become part of this game between reflections and projections, between Self and Image. This unique property of the plates suggests another possibility of remediating the image, a strategy that the artist repeatedly employs." Excerpt from the curatorial text by Harutyun Alpetyan for Zhanna Gladko's solo exhibition in Yerevan in 2016 .
