Polish, illustrator, draughtsman, author of a series of "cartoons" about the January Uprising. p
As an eleven-year-old boy, he was given to study in the studio of the Lviv-based
painter Jan Maszkowski (before that he was given home lessons

drawing by his father, Jan Józef Grottgier, a painter)

He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow and - in the years

1855-1858 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
