Biography
Graphic artist and painter. He studied in Cracow in 1937-42 at the State Institute of Fine Arts and in 1945-48 at the Academy of Fine Arts. The artist combined works into cycles, such as Self-Portraits, Fair Portraits, Józef Gielniak's Portrait Attempts. The largest series were woodcuts inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy. In his painting works he operated with compact, clumsy, deformed solids, e.g. Horse, 1967. He received, among others, the independent Jan Cybis Award (1988), the title of Honorary Professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1993), the Award of the City of Cracow (1998). In 2006, the artist held a solo exhibition at the National Museum in Cracow.
