Józef Pieniążek was born in 1888 in Pychowice, died in 1953 in Cracow ,painter and printmaker, "folklorist", for much of his life associated with Lviv . He began his artistic studies at Krakow's Academy of Fine Arts in 1908, at the same time entering the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University. His painting teachers were Wojciech Weiss, JozefPankiewicz and Leon Wyczółkowski. After graduating, he traveled around Europe, visiting Venice, Verona, Milan, as well as Munich, Vienna and Prague. Later ,Jozef Pieniazek took up a job as a drawing teacher, first in Cracow, then in Sambor and Lviv, where he spent the interwar period. He was a member of theAssociation of Polish Graphic Artists and the Association of Lviv Graphic Artists, among others. After 1945, he settled in Cracow.
