dry needle, paper, 33 x 24 cm (clear passe-partout) ed. 3/10 signed, dated and described at the bottom: Rhinocerus Dry Needle 3/10 Marcin Jablonski 2020
The print "Rhinocerus" presented at auction is inspired by Albrecht Dürer's 1515 woodcut of the same title. The depiction of the said rhinoceros, by the German master of printmaking, was the result of the appearance of the first representative of this species in Europe at that time. Dürer never saw the animal in person, which is the reason for the anatomical errors and misrepresentations of the animal's skin structure. Marcin Jablonski, using the technique of dry needlework (a technique perfected by Dürer), proposes a contemporary interpretation of "Rhinocerus", in which he transfers the characteristic elements of the scales, which the German Renaissance artist imagined would cover the animal's body, onto the bag. Warsaw-based designer, graphic designer and painter. He graduated from the Faculty of Textiles and Clothing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz. He honed his craft at Madrid's Escuela Superior de Diseño. Winner of a special prize at the 3rd International Triennial of Textiles (YTAT 2019). In his artistic activity, he focuses mainly on graphic design and textile design. The original line, meticulous workmanship and contemplative nature of each work will compel anyone to stop in front of his paintings every time. The artist's works are in collections in Poland and abroad.
