"Pugna Navalis | ipsis faucibus Freti Öresund Svecos | nter et Belgas Foederatos Comissa d. 29. octob. An: 1658.; N. 76."
Original. etching 17th century, framed. Dimensions of the print: 29.5 x 57.5 cm, including the frame 46 x 73cm. The engraving was included in Samuele Pufendorf's work De rebus a Carolo Gustavo..., first published in Nuremberg, 1696 (or in one of the reissues, there were several language versions and editions, including in 1697 and 1729).
One of the most decorative marine engravings of the 17th century.
Condition - not very even gluing of the sheets(the engraving was reflected from 2 plates) on the left, 3 white lines on the right side(two at the bottom and one at the top) - sheet cuts(probably the glass broke and damaged the paper).
The illustration shows the great naval battle in the Sund Strait, fought as part of the Second Northern War on 8 X 1658, between the fleets of Sweden and the Dutch-Danish coalition, as a result of the defeat the army of Charles Gustav X had to end the siege of Copenhagen.
