Biography
Painter, sculptor, illustrator. Pop culture enthusiast. Founder and vocalist of the disco polo group Galactics, member of the design collective Czosnek Studio. Dominik is a painter by education (diploma in 2009 at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Leon Tarasewicz). He creates animated films, digital paintings, collages and videos. He illustrates children's books, designs computer games and mobile applications, creates ''home-sized'' sculptures and clothing items. His portfolio includes exhibitions at major Polish contemporary art institutions as well as commissioned works, such as a sculpture for the headquarters of Mercedes Benz Poland, a video for the ING Art Foundation, a map for the Farmer's Daughter hotel in Los Angeles, and an illustrated guidebook for the Pomiechówek municipality near Warsaw.
Rafal Dominik sees art and visual arts as an important element of social life, which is why in many of his works he is engaged in introducing it into wider circulation. His search for art accessible and comprehensible to the common man is reflected in the materials he is most willing to work with: self-adhesive papers and foils or various plastics (foam, styrofoam) come from chain stores such as Leroy Merlin or Carrefour. Thanks to this, Dominik's works balance between what is well-known and recognizable and what is new, fresh and intriguing.
