Tadeusz Jan Cieślewski (father) (born October 22, 1870 in Warsaw, died June 27, 1956 there) - Polish painter, father of graphic artist Tadeusz Cieślewski (son).He studied at the Drawing School in Warsaw under Wojciech Gerson (1831-1901) and his pupil Jan Kauzik (1860-1930). In 1895-1896 he studied in Paris at the Académie Vitti and with Edmond-François Aman-Jean and Raphaël Collin. In 1900 he traveled to Italy and studied at the Academy of Rome. From 1906 he was a member of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, a member and president of the Pro Arte art and painting society. He also served as president of the Association of Polish Artists. He participated in exhibitions of Polish art in 1924 in Moscow, in 1936 at the 20th Venice Biennale, in 1939 in New York.He spent the first post-war years in Piotrkow Trybunalski, in 1948 he returned to Warsaw.He painted cityscapes of Warsaw, less frequently landscapes, portraits and still lifes. He painted most often with watercolor, sometimes also with pastels and oil paints.
