He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, together with one of the most important Polish painters of the 20th century. Andrzej
Wróblewski. They became friends, as the director mentions in "Everything for Sale" and
several documentaries. The work of painting and drawing, allows you to fully understand the language of his
films: images, scenes, and mood. He knew that he wanted to be a great artist already as a
teenager. In 1947 he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, only to decide three years later to
film directing, however, he drew throughout his life. When asked - why do you
draws?", Wajda replied: "For two reasons. First, because what
I draw is my property. It stays in my memory. By drawing I realize
at the same time better what moves my imagination. And in film or theater work
I use drawing because it's faster as a means of communicating with co-workers."
