ZBOROV DISTRICT (TARNOPOLSKIE PROVINCE): OLE, ZAŁOŹCE, REMÓW, CZYSTOBRODY, SASS. Sketchbook containing 54 illustrations in pencil, ink and watercolor by an anonymous soldier, probably of the Austro-Hungarian army. Heavy fighting against the Russians, with the participation of German troops, took place in the Zborov district in late 1915/1916. One of the Austro-Hungarian divisions was commanded by General T. Rozwadowski.
The works were created after the end of the fighting, i.e. after the destruction of the war was done. They are very well documented and bear witness to what the Second Republic had to deal with. The iconography of these localities is indeed impressive. There are stand-alone panoramas and perspectives on several villages, there are individual houses, views of entire streets, the Seret, etc., etc., etc.
This was a region with a rich history. Among other things, it is known for the later Polish-Ukrainian battles and the so-called Delvig Line of June 1919.
The most important performances are dedicated to the Founders. There are more than 20 of them, a locality with a rich history remembering the Wisniowiecki and Sobieski families. Unusual iconographic documentation. From Załozec it is only 4 km to Reniowa. The Germans blew up the church there in 1915. There are 5 views from this village.
Oleyov has its images 10. It is also a locality with a rich past. John III Sobieski had his hunting lodge here. Also included in the sketchbook are Czystobrody and Sassow, close to Olejov and Załoźce.
