linden wood, 1942, 38 x 10 x 9 cm, signed and dated on the base: "HB | 1942".
The work comes from the early period of Henryk Burzec's work, still created under the strong influence of the recently graduated Wood Industry School in Zakopane. During the occupation, Burzec returned to his hometown of Miedzyrzec Podlaski, and then moved to the village of Niedzwiada, where he took a job at a sawmill. Throughout this time, however, he did not abandon sculpture and created small chamber and religious sculptures during World War II.
