Medalist, sculptor, poet, after the end of the war he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Torun under Stanislaw Horno-Poplawski and Tadeusz Godziszewski. He became associated with the artistic circles of Toruń and then Warsaw. His recognizable, synthetic style won him many supporters, his works were purchased by museums and found their way into numerous private collections. The work "First Food" was considered a masterpiece by the FAO and chosen as one of its symbols. "First Food" together with, among others, "Motherhood," "First Word," "First Love" and others form a lyrical cycle, considered one of the best in the artist's work. Markiewicz's work includes numerous images of famous Poles, including Chopin, Curie-Sklodowska, Paderewski and Kosciuszko. The artist used the pseudonym "Nieszcz."
