Biography
The artist worked in painting and sculpture. He first studied at the Higher Industrial School in Cracow, and then continued his studies in western Europe - in Laas and, from 1911, in Milan. In 1915, he served an apprenticeship as a sculptor in Graz. After returning to Poland, he settled in Torun, where he joined the Artists' Confraternity. In 1920 he made his debut at an exhibition of the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts, receiving enthusiastic reviews belying his bright future. After World War II, he settled in Kielce. Religious themes played an important role in his work. Among other things, Durek created monumental figures and elements of church interior design. At the same time he was involved in painting, as well as medal making.
