A nice and interesting gilded fork made in the workshop of Ignaty Sazikov.
Sazikov's goldsmith firm was founded in 1793, and was one of the oldest goldsmith firms in Moscow.
Ignaty Pavlovich was one of the most talented Russian jewelers in the 19th century. Between 1830 and 1868, he owned a factory for gold and silver artistic products. In 1837 Sazikov was awarded the title of Court Jeweler ("court jeweler and goldsmith") by Emperor Nicholas I. In 1845 there was a school at the factory, where about 80 students were trained as goldsmiths.
The handle bears the workshop mark, the maker's namesake in Cyrillic, the probiet punca of 1859, silver punca 84 and the city punca of St. Petersburg.
