Biography
Outstanding theater stage designer. In 1939 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Professor Tadeusz Pruszkowski. Just before the outbreak of war, he made his debut as a stage designer, in the play "The Mute Canary," directed by Henryk Wicinski. After the war, he was briefly associated with the Lublin theater, then with the stages of the Lower Silesian Theaters in Wroclaw, where, among other things, he designed scenery for "Mr. Jowialski" and "Mazepa." From the 1951-52 season, he dedicated his life for 36 years to the Stanislaw Wyspianski Silesian Theater in Katowice, where he created the artistic settings for more than 100 productions. His creative output includes stage designs for productions staged in theaters throughout Poland (about 240). In the opinion of theater experts, he was considered a precursor of surrealism in Polish stage design. He was often compared with Szajna, Kantor, Majewski. Repeatedly emphasized the painterly nature of the stage designs, the extraordinary plasticity and individual character. He participated in district and national exhibitions, including a painting exhibition at the National Museum in Warsaw (1961), an exhibition of stage design in Warsaw (1962) and an exhibition of Polish stage design at Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery (1979).
