Rare!

Arkady Fiedler (1894-1985) one of the most famous Polish travelers and writers. Author of thirty-two books, which for several decades have been the canon of Polish travel literature. Arkady Fiedler's works, translated into more than twenty languages, are known far beyond Poland's borders. Among his bestsellers were his reportage books, published before World War II, describing expeditions to the Amazon ("Fish are singing in Ukajala") and to North America ("Canada smelling of resin"). The writer spent the Second World War in Great Britain, accompanying Polish airmen as a war correspondent. To the heroic deeds of the airmen he dedicated one of his most famous books "Squadron 303". In 1942-1943 Arkady Fiedler sailed on Polish merchant ships that took part in wartime convoys. He described this time in his book "Thank You, Captain," which poignantly documents the bravery of Polish sailors and their sea service in the Allied forces. He recalls the bravado of the Poles, who were the only ones to get their ships out of French West African ports when the Vichy government became Hitler's ally. Among them was the heroic crew of the ship "Kroman" - their bravery inspired fear in their enemies and admiration in their allies.
