Artwork description:
Maria Anto was a painter and poet, in her work she drew inspiration from naive realism and surrealism, creating unique, dreamlike compositions. Maria Anto's work was influenced by the traumatic experiences of World War II, which affected both the subject matter and form of her works. As a result, the artist repeatedly used the poetics of daydreams in her works.
In the painting on display, Maria Anto has depicted her characteristic evening landscape, composed as if of snippets of reality, imbued with an aura of mystery. In the center of the composition, the painter included a crucifix against the background of a rock. The cross is surrounded by fragments of church buildings, a cemetery and a landscape with a tree on a hill. In the painting of this artist, the main role was played by emotions and experiences, which she translated into a fantastic world of ambiguous symbols that open wide paths of interpretation.
