Biography
Studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under the direction of M. Kotarbinski. He also attended the scenography studio of W. Drabik and W. Daszewski, and took lessons in interior design from W. Jastrzębowski. He received his diploma in 1937. Since 1949, he collaborated with the avant-garde group 4F+R (Form, Paint, Texture, Fantastics + Realism), whose founders included A. Lenica. Since the early 1960s, Kalinowski's art has been part of the geometric abstraction trend. The coryphaeuses of the Polish avant-garde - W. Strzeminski, K. Sosnowski and A. Marczynski - had a huge influence on the formation of his concept of art with means of expression radically limited to geometric structures.
