Biography
He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the direction of M. Kotarbinski. He also attended the scenography studio of W. Drabik and W. Daszewski, and took lessons in interior design with W. Jastrzębowski. He received his diploma in 1937. From 1949 he collaborated with the avant-garde group 4F+R (Form, Paint, Texture, Fantastics + Realism), whose founders included A. Lenica. Since the early 1960s, Kalinowski's art has been part of the geometric abstraction trend. The coryphaeuses of the Polish avant-garde - W. Strzeminski, K. Sosnowski and A. Marczynski - had a huge influence on the formation of his concept of art with means of expression radically limited to geometric structures.
