Studied at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow, then in Munich, where he received a gold medal. After returning to Krakow in 1872, he additionally studied with Jan Matejko. He ran courses in painting and drawing for women /for a time his student was Olga Boznańska/ at the Technical and Industrial Museum. He exhibited relatively little. He painted genre scenes illustrating folk customs and rituals (Konik zwierzyniecki, Procesja Bożego Ciała), less often portraits, towards the end of his life he painted landscapes.
