Biography
Otolia Kraszewska studied in St. Petersburg in the studio of Ivan
Aivazovsky. Around 1890, she settled in Munich, where she
she probably remained until the end of her life, and where she became associated with the
Polish community grouped around Jozef Brandt. In the years
1896-1913 in the pages of the Munich magazine "Jugend" she published
illustrations to texts, vignettes and satirical drawings. Her illustrations
were also reproduced in the Polish "Life and Art" and "Ziarno".
During the heyday of the Art Nouveau style, she largely devoted her
creativity to book decoration and decorative arts. She created covers,
title cards, vignettes, as well as wallpapers, screens and fans,
much appreciated in Germany and Poland. She also painted portraits,
still lifes, fantasy, genre and religious scenes. In the years
1890-1914 she repeatedly participated in the Munich exhibitions of the
Kunstverein, of which she was a member. She also sent her works to
Poland, primarily to the TZSP in Warsaw and TPSP in Krakow.
