A separate place in Janowski's work is occupied by Legion themes. During World War I, the artist took part in the battles of the First and Second Brigades of the Polish Legions. During his service, he created mostly watercolors and drawings, and less often oil paintings, depicting scenes of combat and camp life. He later presented them at six Legion exhibitions. Among them was the composition In the Camp near Piaseczno, created in 1916 during the Volhynia campaign. In museum collections and on the art market one also encounters photographs from the camp near Piaseczna, which the artist took at the time.

Stanislaw Janowski - painter, illustrator, stage designer; brother of painter Bronislawa Rychter-Janowska. In 1882-1886 he studied at the Cracow School of Fine Arts under F. Szynalewski, I. After his studies, he settled in Cracow, from where he traveled to Italy several times. In 1900 he participated in an open-air study organized by S. Hollósy in Nagybanya, Transylvania. From 1901 to 1910 he was married to writer and actress Gabriela Zapolska, with whom he moved to Warsaw in 1903 and Lviv in 1905. There, in 1912, he was appointed professor at the Free Academy of Arts. During World War I he served in the Legions.
