The work comes from "Teka autolitografii artystów legionistów wydana w dwudziestolecie zbrojnego czynnu legionów 1919-1934", Kraków 1934.
The portfolio was published in 1934 in Cracow by the Section of Legionary Artists and accompanied the Historical Exhibition of the Polish Legions at the National Museum in Cracow. The exhibition was later also shown in other cities, including Lviv.
The portfolio contains 15 lithographs by 10 artists. They include works by Stanislaw Dabrowski, Kazimierz Dzielinski, Stanislaw Janowski, Franciszek Jaźwiecki, Stanislaw Kamocki, Tadeusz Korpal, Tadeusz Seweryn, Wincenty Wodzinowski and Leon Wyczolkowski. The works show portraits of soldiers, combat and life in the trenches, war cemeteries and symbolic scenes. Most are signed in pencil by the authors. All works were created especially for the exhibition in question.
Stanislaw Janowski coat-of-arms Ślepowron (1866 Kraków - 1942 there) Polish painter, illustrator and stage designer. Lecturer at the Drama School in Krakow, director and theater decorator. Soldier of the Second Brigade of the Legions. Second husband of Gabriela Zapolska and brother of painter Bronislawa Rychter-Janowska. He studied in Cracow at the School of Fine Arts, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He was an acclaimed painter of portraits, landscapes, battle and genre scenes. He was also involved in illustrating books and magazines. Among other things, he illustrated Gabriela Zapolska's drama Tamten. Two years later (November 9, 1901) he married the writer. He co-authored panoramas, including the monumental Panorama of the Tatra Mountains (1896), which no longer exists. Together with Zygmunt Rozwadowski, he also painted a panorama of Lviv, depicting the city from the second half of the 18th century. The work, measuring 320 × 880 cm, was created in 1929 for the General National Exhibition.
