Barbara Zbrożyna (1923 - 1995) was a student of Ksawery Dunikowski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and Franciszek Strynkiewicz in Warsaw. As a sculptor and illustrator, she started from monumental works and realizations on buildings in Warsaw, which was being rebuilt after the destruction, and monumental sculpture, to evolve towards abstract art and towards organic forms through numerous sculptural portraits. The influence of Henry Moore with his spatial and open structures is evident in her works. She extended her artistic explorations to large-scale drawing compositions and then to printmaking. While practicing printmaking - lithography, she showed her interest in transience and death in fancifully tangled, biological-abstract compositions. She was not only a member of the groundbreaking visual arts Group 55, but also a committed educator, poet and active member of the anti-communist opposition in Poland.
