Janina Kraupe-Świderska (1921- 2016) was associated with Krakow and the local Academy of Fine Arts, where she studied at the Faculty of Painting with Fryderyk Pautsch, Eugeniusz Eibisch and Wacław Taranczewski, while simultaneously studying at the Faculty of Graphic Arts with Konrad Srzednicki. During the occupation, she was associated with Tadeusz Kantor's theater. She remained an educator at her alma mater, obtaining the title of professor. Since 1957, she became associated with the milieu of the Cracow Group, becoming an important member of it. In both her painting and graphic works, she emphasized the influence of Far Eastern culture and Zen philosophy. She used fantasy, abstract and magical symbols and images for most of her artistic ouvre. Music, which she often tries to illustrate, also had a great influence on her works.
