Jan Rubczak - studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow from 1904 to 1911 under F. Cynk and J. Pankiewicz, at the Akademie für Graphische Künste und Buchgewerbe in Leipzig and at the Academie Colarossi in Paris. He stayed in Paris from 1915 to 1923, and from 1924 ran a private Free School of Painting in Cracow. Member of TAP "Art", co-founder of the Artists' Guild "Jednoróg". He exhibited in the country, took part in the Paris Salons, represented Polish art at international exhibitions. He painted landscapes and decorative still lifes in a realistic manner, often in bright colors. He also practiced watercolor; his prints are counted among the most outstanding achievements of Polish printmaking. He took up printmaking around 1908, practicing metal techniques (etching and aquatint) and lithography. He was mainly interested in landscape and architecture.
