About the work:Maria Michalowska (1925-2018), drawing from the series Transformations of XY, drawing 2, ink on paper, in light of passepartout: 75x42.5 cm, 1973. Front right bottom: signature. Back left top sticker: Maria Michałowska: "Transformations of XY", /Drawing 2/, technique: ink, size 88.5 x 55 cm 1973. M. Michałowska's approach to drawing was processual and intellectual. In 1975 the artist writes: "The drawings are a natural consequence of the transition from the line in the painting to the most synthetic form of writing - pure line and only line. I use line not artistically, but mechanically. I outline a hand, the profile of a face, the trace of an object, or the shape of its shadow. It's not about creating the illusion of reality, I use reality itself. (...) Serial repetition of a hand or profile is to lose a single - individual, unique entity - it is more about accentuating anonymity." The intellectual approach to drawing does not reduce its baroque beauty of the lines created, the harmony of the composition and the resulting beauty of the works. Works from this series can be found in museum and private collections. The work is described in the monograph Maria Michalowska, E. Kosciellak, 2014, p. 67.
