Renoir repeated this motif several times in both painting and printmaking techniques. The first edition of the presented etching was published in 1894, ( Gustave Geffroy's La Vie Artistique (Paris, 1894),it was repeated twice more - in 1921 ( Renoir et ses amis by Georges Riviere (Paris, 1921) and in 1950. The etching in question was reproduced in the third edition from an original copper plate personally made by Renoir. The etching depicts a portrait of Julie Manet (daughter of Berthe Morisot and niece of Edouard Manet) and her cousin. It was originally published in Gustave Geffroy's third series La Vie Artistique (Paris, 1894) and in Georges Riviere's Renoir et ses amis (Paris, 1921).
