Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859 - 1923) - Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859-1923) was a French draughtsman, painter and printmaker from Switzerland, classified as a member of the Art Nouveau movement. He studied at the University of Lausanne. He worked as a cartoonist for many newspapers and produced highly regarded advertising posters. Steinlen also worked with publishers to produce limited editions of his prints, as exemplified by his 1896 lithograph Misère or Misery. The publisher was Édouard Kleinmann, who ran a printing house in Paris in the 1890s and counted Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec among his clients alongside Steinlen.
