The engraving was published in the Vilnius monthly "South" in 1923, and accompanied an extensive article on interwar woodcuts.
Waclaw Wąsowicz was born in 1891 in Warsaw, and died in 1942 in Wilanow near Warsaw. In 1909-1910 he studied at the Warsaw Drawing School under Mieczyslaw Kotarbinski, then in 1911-1914 at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Ignacy Pienkowski. He further supplemented his education in the studio of Jacek Malczewski at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
The artist belonged to the Polish Art Club from 1918, and from 1919 to the Formist group, with which he exhibited in Krakow, Warsaw and Paris. In 1921 he collaborated with the magazine "Formists". Waclaw Wąsowicz was also a member of the Association of Artists "Rhythm" from 1923, and joined the Association of Graphic Artists "Rhythm.
