A native of Krakow, graduate of the local Academy of Fine Arts, Zdzislaw Król (1921 - 2007) associated his professional life with the Coast, where he worked as a graphic artist and press illustrator. At the same time he practiced printmaking, and subjects related to the Coast and Pomerania were the most common in his work. Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia's Orlowo were repeatedly portrayed in his prints. The woodcut "By the Nets" from the mid-1960s is reminiscent of Orlowo, where by the pier fishermen still hang up their nets after returning from fishing on the bay. In its style it perfectly captures the spirit of that era.
