Arkona - a city and religious center of the Baltic Slavs, located on the island of Rügen, destroyed by the Danes in 1169.It was a religious center, bringing together many Slavic tribes. It was ruled by the high priest of the god Svyatovit.
Stanislaw JAKUBOWSKI (14.04.1885 Kosow - 9.06.1964 Krakow) graphic artist and painter. Initially studied at the School of Wood Industry in Stanislawow (sculpture department), and between 1907 and 1912 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Teodor Axentowicz, Stanislaw Debicki and Leon Wyczolkowski, from 1912 a teacher in secondary education, from 1946 a lecturer, then an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. From about 1914 he took up mainly artistic printmaking. A master of woodcuts, he also practiced metal techniques, the author of about a thousand engravings, moreover, a prolific utility printmaker, an expert in ornament and Slavic themes (see: "Słownik artystów polskich ...", vol. 3, pp. 185-187).
