Between 1934 and 1939 he studied at the Institute of Fine Arts in Cracow and after graduation, thanks to a scholarship he was to leave for Italy. This trip was thwarted by World War II; after the war, Waclaw Kondek graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Lodz (1947 - 1951). In 1947 he settled in Lodz, and in 1951 became a member of the Association of Polish Artists. He created numerous series of works in which he created his own style, his own world. In his works - in addition to themes bordering on fairy-tale fantasy and sentiment for folk messages, folk 'fairy tales', fascination with old, abandoned, mysterious houses, creaking willows, the passing world - we find realistically treated subjects. These are usually images of places where he stayed, for example, during his summer plein-airs or the city with which he became permanently associated. The artist had a great fondness for the theme of Lodz (factories, palaces, streets) both in his paintings and in his numerous drawings, which today are a valuable iconographic source depicting old Lodz, objects that no longer exist, as in the case of old factories.
