Pair of engravings from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Format : 11 x 17 [cm].
Left: Camp Scene This engraving depicts a scene in a military camp, probably illustrating a piece of military history or the daily life of soldiers at the time. It is possible that it is a scene related to the Thirty Years' War or another conflict of the modern era.
Right engraving: allegorical or historical scene The right engraving, containing the inscription "STORIA MODERNA DI TUTTI I POPOLI DEL MONDO..." at the bottom, shows figures in classical Greek or Roman costumes seeming to erect (or topple) a monumental pillar, next to which is a winged figure (probably Mercury) and a building resembling the Roman Pantheon. The scene is probably an allegory or illustration of the mythological tale of Aeneas and Mercury, which often appeared in engravings of the period.
