Battle scenes were a very popular genre in eighteenth century Europe. A particular refinement and chromatic elegance are typical of this artist, as is his formal quality, characterized by a moved but precise brushstroke. Notable is the depiction of horses in motion, but also the emphasis on real dynamics, such as the representation of horses on the ground and upright, or the loincloths of moving soldiers.
