Opis pozycji
[Site plan of the Sokółca estate in Podolia]. 1834.

Hand-drawn map, hand-colored on folded paper, 675 × 1005 mm. Several vertical and one horizontal fold; the paper is slightly frayed and creased at the edges, with minor soiling.

A carefully executed hand-drawn survey map of the lands belonging to the Kondracki brothers in the town of Sokółca in the Podolia Governorate (present-day village of Sokilec in the Vinnytsia Oblast, Ukraine). The survey covers part of the land in the town of Sokółca and was conducted for the purpose of dividing the estate between the brothers Maciej and Sebastian Kondracki, at the request of the Podolia Civil Chamber and pursuant to a decree of the Podolia Civil Court, as part of the final division of the estate of Ludwik Trzeczewski in 1834.
The map was drawn in ink and hand-colored, depicting fields, meadows, forests, watercourses, and roads with great topographic accuracy. The town of Sokółca is shown with individual buildings marked in red, along with the names of rivers and streams, forest areas, and roads leading to neighboring towns, including Zagórzan, as well as numbered and labeled plots and the boundaries of neighboring properties. A compass rose is placed in the upper right corner, and a scale bar is located at the bottom.
On the right margin are two detailed tabular lists. The first contains the surnames of the peasants owning land belonging to Maciej and Sebastian Kondracki, respectively—a total of eleven people. The second presents a detailed calculation of the total land area, broken down by land use, including arable land in three fields, a meadow, a forest, and gardens.
A parallel inscription in Russian in the title block contains the official administrative designation, reflecting the dual Polish-Russian administrative nature of the document during the tsarist era. In the lower left corner is a handwritten annotation: “С подлинного копировал Участковый Землемер” – “Copied from the original by the district surveyor” – along with a signature. The map also bears a Russian tsarist revenue stamp for 60 kopecks, dated May 19, 1880, indicating its later use or official certification.

An interesting document detailing the division of Polish land estates in Podolia during the Tsarist period, combining detailed cadastral surveys with valuable socio-economic records documenting the owners of peasant lands and the manner in which the land was used. It is of particular interest from the perspective of the history of the Polish nobility, land ownership in Podolia, and the administration of the former Polish lands within the borders of the Russian Empire.
