She graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Nowy Wisnicz. She is a graduate of the Art Institute of the Silesian University in Katowice, Branch in Cieszyn. In 1998 she received a diploma in painting in the studio of Prof. Zygmunt Lis.

"Ilona Herc presents us with the world of a child. The artist uses pure, saturated colors and reaches for temperature contrasts. Color with its expressiveness is the main means of expression in the painting. The girl, the protagonist of the depiction, turns away from the viewer, looks ahead. Although she is alone in an undefined closer space, she feels good, safe in it. This is her own , ephemeral world. The painting is a space composed of colors."
