European Master of 18th century, Classical Landscape with Herd of Cattle and Ancient Building

In summer evening, a shepherd and shepherdess drive a herd of cattle and sheep through a wooded landscape with a river. An ancient building rises on the left edge of the picture. In the distance, a sunlit bridge crosses the river. The painting is a very free variant of a painting by Claude Lorrain, A Classical Landscape with Cattle Crossing a Stream in Anglesey Abbey (National Trust), UK. The landscapes of Claude Lorrain became the benchmark for classic landscape painting, and inspired countless artists in Europe to create their own works based on his model. In England, John Wootton (1686–1764) also created classic landscapes in the style of Claude Lorrain.
